About the Authors
Hollie Schultz, mother of two, is the founder and President of The Baby Gizmo Company. A product testing and research coalition of moms, pediatricians and child development experts, The Baby Gizmo Company publishes Babygizmo.com, the Web's only baby product resource site featuring third party, in-depth expert reviews and a price comparison engine with over 25,000 products. Recognizing the need for a "CNET of baby gear," Hollie founded the company in 2005, finally providing mothers reliable information about baby products.
She was so intent on providing knowledgeable information that she became a certified CPS (Child Passenger Safety) Tech. She personally tested many of the items reviewed on the site. You can see her as the host of the Baby Gizmo Video Reviews giving moms the inside look at baby products before they purchase them.
Hollie is also an accomplished author. Her first book, The Baby Gizmo Buying Guide was released by Thomas Nelson in February 2008. Co-written with her sister, instead of *what* to buy, they will teach you *how* to buy more than 400 different types of baby products.
Heather Maclean, Baby Gizmo co-founder and proud mom of two girls and a boy. A Literature major at Princeton, Heather is also the founder of an award-winning children's educational media company and co-authored her first book about baby gear (The Baby Gizmo Buying Guide) with her sister.

Editorial Review
From Publishers Weekly
For first-time moms without time or inclination to dally in stores comparing various items for their babies, Maclean and Schultz have compiled a handy baby-gadget buying encyclopedia. The authors, founders of BabyGizmo.com, which tests baby products, have buil[t] stroller obstacle courses, weight[ed] products, throw[n] food at them, and run through parking lots with them. The authors' most reliable expertise is that they have young kids and know from experience the advantages and disadvantages of, say, side-by-side versus stadium-seating strollers. This guide doesn't review based on brands; it compares the range of a product to narrow the choices and help you decide what kind of stroller is best for your needs, and then within that type, which accessories and gadgets are necessary. Covered are safety considerations and suggestions for a no-nonsense registry list. The bulk of the book is organized alphabetically and offers advice on packing a well-equipped diaper bag, tips on saving money; they conclude with a glossary for every baby product on the planet so readers will know the difference between a Boppy and a Binky and what an Itzabeen is. | These Moms Know Baby Products! by ctbackster from Little Rock, AR | Mom Rating:
 | | Best: Funny! Easy to Read! Helpful! | | Worst: That I did not have it sooner! | | Full Review: This book is fabulous! These sister-authors really know their stuff! I love that the authors really help the reader through the mountains of stuff that moms-to-be have to buy for the little one. The authors are funny and made this baby product bible a very easy read. It even has pictures for those items that you might not know about. It also give lots of lists at the back of the book to help such as baby registry lists...etc. I recommend this book for every new mom! You will not be disappointed! | | | | Amazing book.... Great Idea by fmnevents from Brampton, Ontario, Other | Mom Rating:
 | | Best: Great book for anyone pregnant or not... if you have friend / family having kids it should be the handbook for everyone | | Worst: Could have a Canadian section in it | | Full Review: I love this book... I have had the book for about 9 months now. I purchased it when I was looking for some shower gifts for my friends... I just found out that I am pregnant now and I cannot wait to re read it again... I kind of wish it could have a Canadian section or refer to some canadian models, standards, etc.... but all in all a must have book even if you are not having children... if you are going to be buying someone a shower gift you would like to know exactly what \\\"REAL\\\" people say about it.....
| | | | The Baby Gizmo Buying Guide by vernbunny from Bedford, NY | Mom Rating:
 | | Best: | | Worst: | | Full Review: This is my first pregnancy and I felt overwhelmed with all of the products available for babies. I just knew I was going to end up with a scanner gun pointing at everything in the store just because I wasn't sure what to get. However, a friend sent me this book and after reading it, I have decided that in the future I will buy The Baby Gizmo Buying Guide as a gift for all first time mothers I know.
The book breaks everything down into manageable, thorough, and informative sections. It was actually interesting to read and I felt more educated after each section. Not to mention, the authors are smart women who make a lot of sense. I highly recommend this book. | | | | Helped me register!! by Melissababy2 from St. Paul, MN | Mom Rating:
 | | Best: Covered everything! | | Worst: | | Full Review: I just read this book and it really is great! I even took it to the store with me to register. Now, my husband was getting impatient that I was looking up every big product that I picked - but hey, he didn't know either :) So, The Baby Gizmo Buying Guide helped us register for almost everything we picked. It talks about big purchases like car seats and strollers and things you don't really think about like crib mattresses. Let me tell you I would have done it all wrong if I didn't read this first. My mom was no help because everything has changed since then and I'm the first of my friends to have a baby -- so it was me and the Baby Gizmo Book. There is even a list of every baby product in the world in the back that was helpful. Also, there is a section at the end of each chapter to write notes to help you in the process. Definitely, this is a great book for you, you friend, your sister or whoever is having a baby! | | | | Terrific Book! by JJJackson from Atlanta, GA | Mom Rating:
 | | Best: Very helpful for new moms! | | Worst: | | Full Review: This is a terrific book! My sister-in-law saw it at the store and bought it for me. I sat down and read it before I registered last month and it was a life-saver. I didn't know where to start with picking out all this baby stuff but I feel like this book walked me through it. It helped me pick out everything that I possibly needed to register for. I also loved the pronunciation guide, humor, and the lists at the back of the book. This book is a must have for any new mom! | | | | Great Book! by BabyDaddy79 from Bexley, OH | Mom Rating:
 | | Best: The no nonsense opinions | | Worst: Speaks mostly to moms and not dads | | Full Review: I got this book from someone where I work (I'm an elementary teacher and work with almost all women!).
It has been so helpful to my wife and I as we had no clue what to buy, when, and if it was even necessary.
The book gives you great advice, and even if the authors don't like the product (unless it is totally dangerous and stupid), they tell you some reason you might need it or want it if you think you just have to have one. I only wish more dads showed interest so they could gear some of the hilarious commentary towards them every once in a while.
This would make a great gift for someone who has found out they are expecting and we'll buy it for any of our friends for sure. | | | | I love this book!! by Peanutsmom from Bakersfield, CA | Mom Rating:
 | | Best: Funny yet very informative!! | | Worst: | | Full Review: I love this book! It is so informative and funny and I would recommend it to every new mom. I am due with twins soon and was feeling very overwhelmed with the amount of baby gear that is out there. These are my first two babies so baby gear shopping was completely new to me and I felt lost every time I went into the baby store.
I loved the personal additions that the authors included in the book so much that I feel like I know them now that I have read it. The book is easy to read and really funny so instead of being overwhelming, the book makes baby gear shopping much easier.
All the major baby products have their own chapter and it's organized very well. There are even some great lists (such as what to register for) in the back that I found helpful. After I read the book, I came here to the website to browse the Top 5 lists to make my shopping even easier. Now, I'm happy to say that I have bought most of the things I need for my babies and feel very confident about my purchases thanks to the authors.
So, if anyone need help sifting through the world of baby gear, I would highly recommend checking out this book because it will answer all your questions. It even helped me pick out a double stroller that I absolutely love for my twins!
